young and was looking for ways to increase my flexibility, core strength and stamina. I had read that Pilates was a help for dressage riders so I decided to try it.
Sally has been terrific to work with and she has been very interested in learning more about the physical aspects of my sport. I dislike gyms by the way and really do enjoy Sally’s home studio. Pilates with Sally has increased all of the above. I really believe it will be something I will continue to do to stay flexible and strong for the rest of my days whether I ride horses or not.
The Pilates Method is a non-impact, balanced, rhythmic system that works well for any fitness level. You can enjoy a refreshing, energizing and challenging workout that improves strength, flexibility, coordination and balance. The heart of Pilates is in the process of the movement.
Pilates conditioning creates an awareness of the body as a single integrated unit. It also improves physical alignment and breathing while increasing efficiency of movement. Each exercise is designed to stretch and strengthen the muscles involved, opening the joints and releasing tension.
At the end of a mat or equipment based session, people feel relaxed and focused, yet invigorated. Their bodies feel centered, aligned and anchored.
Joseph Pilates developed this method and called it Contrology – using the mind to control the muscles. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and aim to strengthen the muscles of the abdomen and back that support the spine – what we call the “powerhouse”.
