It’s a Wonderful Life!
Despite the secularization of one of the Church’s holiest days, a few cinematic gems remain. Think of the Charlie Brown Christmas Special: Linus actually reads the Gospel at the end to remind everyone of the true meaning of Christmas. And let’s not forget the actual subject of this post which is, in my humble opinion, the finest movie ever made: It’s A Wonderful Life.
Benedict XVI’s Prayer Intentions for January
Pope Benedict’s general prayer intention for January 2012 is: “That the victims of natural disasters may receive the spiritual and material comfort they need to rebuild their lives”.
His mission intention is: “That the dedication of Christians to peace may bear witness to the name of Christ before all men and women of good will”.
Urbi et Orbi
“Dear Brothers and Sisters in Rome and throughout the world! Christ is born for us! Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth to the men and women whom he loves. May all people hear an echo of the message of Bethlehem which the Catholic Church repeats in every continent, beyond the confines of every nation, language and culture. The Son of the Virgin Mary is born for everyone; he is the Saviour of all [...]
Kateri Tekakwitha: First Native Born American Saint
The Holy Father yesterday [19 December] signed decrees acknowledging miracles attributed to the intervention of seven blesseds (four women and three men) who will shortly be canonised. One of the new blesseds is Kateri Tekakwitha, the first native North American to be raised to the glory of the altars. Kateri Tekakwitha was born in 1656 in Ossernenon (present-day Auriesville, U.S.A.). Her father was [...]

The Maine Right to Life Committee will hold its annual Hands Around the Capitol Rally and March on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at St. Michael’s Gym, 56 Sewall Street in Augusta. This event is where we publicly recognize and mourn the Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade, while providing an intense impact on those [...]
Catholic Health Care in Jeopardy
Evidence continues to pile up that the huge expansion of government formally known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) — Obamacare, for short — poses huge risks to religious freedom, to the rights of conscience, and to our very lives. Health and Human Services recently issued a directive dealing with so-called “preventive services for women” that are required to be covered [...]
Does Western Sexual Ideology Drive the AIDS Crisis?
The truth is that there can never be enough billions to “end” an epidemic driven by the sexual ideology of the same parties — or their partners — that are supposed to be curing it. This was rather sharply illustrated a couple of months ago with the publication of evidence linking the widespread use of progestin injections as birth control with HIV transmission in sub-Saharan Africa [...]
