Monday is the Day…
...that GLAD (Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders) and their local surrogates at Equality Maine are expected to announce their intentions for a November marriage referendum. As our readers up in the Bangor area are aware, GLAD / EqME have already launched a series of ads aimed at the religious vote, complete with a Methodist pastor donning a Roman collar and what the viewer assumes to be a Catholic couple (they are not). What seems clear is that in this go around, the Church and its members will be the targets of the GLAD / EqME campaign to redefine marriage.
We at CM hope and pray that the people of Maine will not have to go through another contentious and divisive referendum campaign. We voted on this issue once and the outcome was fairly decisive given the incredible effort put forth by a group who should never have lost. They had the money, they had the organization and they had the full support of the press who continually opined for their cause. They even had the support of the sitting (Catholic) governor who actively campaigned on their behalf.
And yet marriage prevailed.
Marriage was, if only for a short time, protected as being what it has always been, certainly since the founding of this great nation and for many centuries prior: the union of one man and women, a union that exists not only for the good of the spouses, but for the benefit of any children that are the result of their union.
Of course, if the time comes, many will stand and fight to defend against this attack on the foundational element of society. But we should not have to.
Say an extra prayer this weekend that this cup might pass from us. Having said that, we must all be prepared to do as He wills.

All authentic Catholics will do what is in their power to defend social justice, as it is so clearly taught by the Church.
Whether or not we must deal with this issue again in referendum, Catholics must recognize the obligation to be clear and complete in their witness to the world when it comes to the teachings of Christ.
The only reason such obvious lunacy as same sex marriage is even debated, is because so many people don't know what marriage is to begin with. American Catholics are guilty of contributing to this decline as much as anyone...
And so we reap what social liberalism has sown... the question is, do we have the guts to bear witness to the truth, come what may?
I am sure they will try to redefine marriage again this November.
Chris stated, And so we reap what social liberalism has sown... the question is, do we have the guts to bear witness to the truth, come what may?
I hope and pray that we do!! If we are the Body of Christ, then we are His hand and His feet. We have to stand up, speak out and oppose the redefinition of marriage!
Word on the street is that the formal announcement will be made Thursday. Standby for more.
